The Catholic University of Portugal was considered the best University in Portugal by the annual ranking of Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THEWUR) of 2020, published on the 11 september 2019.

Placed between the position 351 and 400 (in a total of 1369 universities), this is the best result so far reached by a portuguese institution on the THEWUR. Regarding the previous edition, the Catholic University of Portugal rised several hundreds of positions in the world ranking and was the only one of the thirteen portuguese higher education institutions  to go up in the scale.

The THEWUR 2020 integrates almost 1400 education institutions of more than 92 countries that are subject to the 13 most thorough evaluation criteria about educations, investigatiob, internation vision of univeristues and more.
