Who can apply for the LL.M. programmes?

All law graduates can apply for our Executive LL.M. Regulation and Compliance. Considering the nature of the programme, preference will be given to candidates with relevant professional experience, e.g. as lawyers, in-house counsel or public sector officials.



Am I required to have completed my undergraduate degree to apply?

Yes, you must already hold a law degree at the time you submit your application.



Is an LL.M. well regarded by potential employers?

Of course. After finishing their studies, our LL.M. graduates have gone on to work for top law firms, multinational companies, startups, international organizations, and EU institutions. Where is the programme located?

The programme is primarily run online, through Miles in the Sky’s innovative platform. It includes two mandatory on-site weeks in the beginning of each semester: one in Lisbon (September) and one in Porto (January).



Do I need to move to Portugal?

Since the programme is offered primarily online, you do not need to move to Portugal. However, you will be required to be physically present at Católica for the two on-site weeks.



Can I keep working while pursuing this LL.M.?

Absolutely. This is a programme designed for working professionals who want to take their career to the next level, while maintaing their current professional activity.



What is the typical schedule of an Executive LL.M. student?

A potential typical week of a Core Course (weeks 1-3 of the semester) includes two live sessions of 2 hours each and 8 hours of self-paced work. In the case of Elective Courses (weeks 4-12), you should expect to have one live session of 2 hours and 6 hours of self-paced work.

What documents do I need to submit as part of my application?

To submit your application, please be prepared to provide the following information and documents:

  • Personal information: You will begin by filling out the application form with your personal information. You will need to upload a copy of your ID card or passport and a photo.
     
  • Higher education: The second section will ask you for information on the degree(s) you have obtained. You will need to submit an official copy of your university transcripts (or pre-transcripts, in case you have not yet concluded your degree on the date of the application).
     
  • Documents: You will then be asked to upload supporting documents, specifically your CV, a personal statement, and two letters of recommendation.
     
  • English Language Proficiency: If English is not your native language and you have not completed a degree at an English-speaking institution, you may need to provide proof of language proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS, or a similar test. These may be replaced by an online interview.


What level of English do I need to have?

Our LL.M. programmes are fully taught in English, so you will need a high level of fluency. During your application process, you may prove your English proficiency either through an online interview or by submitting one of these exam scores: 

  • TOEFL (recommended score): 600 (PBT), 250 (CBT), or 100 (IBT);
  • IELTS (recommended score): 7.0


Is there an application fee?

No. While you do not need to pay any fee in order to submit your application, you will need to pay an enrollment fee in case you are admitted to the programme and wish to secure your place.



Is there an early bird period?

Yes. If you apply by 31 January, you will benefit from a 10% in the tuition fee.



After submitting my application, how can I be sure that it will be reviewed?

Upon the submission of your application, you will receive a confirmation email.



If unsuccessful, can I reapply?

We only accept one application per intake. If your application was unsuccessful and you wish to reapply, we strongly recommend you to improve your profile and to wait for the next application period.



Is there a Spring intake?

No, there is only one intake per year and classes start in September.



Regarding tuition, is there any installment policy?

Yes. Upon admission, students can choose whether they wish to pay tuition (a) in full until September or (b) in 10 monthly installments from September to June.



What is the grading system like at Católica?

Students are graded either on a 0-20 scale (with 10 being the passing grade) or on a pass/fail basis.
