The Code of Practice for the Transparency of GenAI Content

Friday, June 12, 2026 - 10:11

The European Commission has published the Code of Practice designed to support the implementation of the transparency obligations established under Article. 50 of the AI Act.

The Code provides practical guidance for providers and deployers of AI systems on how to mark and label generated and modified content. The Code also proposes using the EU icon to label content generated or modified by AI.

The publication of the Code marks an important step in implementing the AI Act and broadly in the European Union's efforts to address the challenges posed by synthetic content.

We are pleased that our Vice-Dean Giovanni De Gregorio has played a central role as vice-chair of this European code bringing together more than 180 stakeholders.

According to Professor De Gregorio: “This European Code of Practice is a milestone in the implementation of the AI Act. It plays an important role in setting rules on how content generated or modified by AI systems should be labelled, particularly introducing design and placement specifications. The EU icon is also another critical point resulting from this process in order to harmonize disclosure of AI generated and modified content”.

The Code of Practice is available on the European Commission's website.
