Eversheds Sutherland Professorship in International Corporate Law

Thanks to the support of Eversheds Sutherland, Católica Global School of Law and Católica Lisbon School of Law established the Eversheds Sutherland Professorship in International Corporate Law.

This partnership allowed Católica to appoint Petros Mavroidis, one of the world’s leading scholars in the fields of International Trade Law and Sports Law. Professor Mavroidis has been a legal adviser to the WTO since 1996, and is also the Edwin B. Parker Professor of Foreign and Comparative Law at Columbia Law School (New York City).

Professor Mavroidis “has been cooperating with Católica for several years now, being a teacher loved by our students”, as pointed out by Dean Miguel Poiares Maduro. “It’s a great pleasure to welcome him as a part of our resident faculty, thanks to this collaboration with Eversheds Sutherland”.

Professor Mavroidis shared his belief that his arrival “signals the enrichment of the study of contemporary issues in international relations and international law” at Católica. He is the author of various monographs, including recently Industrial Policy, National Security and the Perilous Plight of the WTO (Oxford University Press 2024), and China and the WTO, Why Multilateralism Still Matters with André Sapir (Princeton University Press 2021), as well as of numerous articles that have appeared in peer-reviewed journals. He has acted as reporter for the American Law Institute (ALI) project on “International Trade Law: the WTO”, is a member of the Institut de droit international, and a non-resident fellow at Bruegel (Brussels).

Co-managing Partner of Eversheds Sutherland Portugal

In order to provide a truly added value service to our Clients, we know that we must hire and retain the best professionals and this requires, inter alia, a close connection with the academic world. It was in this context that the association with the Católica Global School of Law and the Católica Lisbon School of Law was born, intuitively and clearly for us. Such association has already materialized, among other aspects, in the sponsorship of the Masters in Law and Management by Eversheds Sutherland and the creation of the Eversheds Sutherland Professorship in International Corporate Law. Within the scope of the latter, we are now extremely proud to be associated with the hiring of an academic with the prestige of Professor Petros Mavroidis. It unequivocally proves the success of our partnership with Católica and reinforces our conviction that, with such a partnership, Eversheds Sutherland will increasingly be a reference at national and international level.
