Joseph H.H. Weiler was awarded the Doctorate Honoris Causa

Today, Joseph H.H. Weiler was awarded the Doctorate Honoris Causa by Universidade Católica Portuguesa, during the celebrations of the university's National Day.

The distinction was granted in recognition not only of Joseph Weiler's academic career, but also of his special link with Universidade Católica. Since 2009, Weiler has been the co-director of one of Católica Global School of Law's LL.M. programmes - the LL.M. Law in a European and Global Context - and a driving force behind the law school's internationalization project. The laudation speech was given by Miguel Poiares Maduro, Dean of Católica Global School of Law.

Joseph Weiler is currently the Joseph Straus Professor of Law at NYU School of Law and the Co-Director of the Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law and Justice. He studied law in the United Kingdom (Sussex and Cambridge) and at the European University Institute in Florence, where he later served as professor and as President. Joseph Weiler's teaching and research focus on international law, the law of the EU and the WTO, as well as the intersection between law and religion.
