Católica Global School of Law (CGSL) is proud to announce a groundbreaking collaboration with Microsoft Portugal to design a seminar on Generative AI for Lawyers. This innovative seminar, which will be taught by Tito Rendas (CGSL) and Eduardo Matos (Microsoft), will become an integral part of the Skills Seminars offered in the LL.M. curriculum starting from the upcoming academic year.
With technology revolutionizing every aspect of legal practice, the demand for professionals adept at leveraging AI technologies has never been greater. Recognizing this need, CGSL has joined forces with Microsoft Portugal to offer students a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of AI and legal practice. The seminar is designed to equip students with essential knowledge on what generative AI is and with the skills necessary to competently use this technology in their day-to-day. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises, the seminar will address crucial ethical and legal considerations surrounding the use of generative AI, empowering students to address some of the risks associated with the use of this technology in law, such as hallucination, memorization, and confidentiality.
Tito Rendas – who has been exploring AI’s implications for fields like Intellectual Property, as well as for legal research in general – expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “We are thrilled to collaborate with the education team at Microsoft Portugal to bring this groundbreaking seminar to our LL.M. students”, he remarked. “In today's era, it's vital for legal professionals to embrace technologies like AI, and we want our graduates to be ahead of the curve”.
Eduardo Matos, Account Executive of Higher Education at Microsoft Portugal, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with the next generation of legal professionals, helping them to understand and apply generative AI in their practices. We believe that technology, used ethically and responsibly, is a powerful tool to improve efficiency and justice in the legal field. We are eager to see what the students will be able to achieve with the skills they will acquire in this seminar”.
