Católica Global School of Law and Católica Lisbon School of Law appointed Giuseppe Mazziotti as Abreu Professor in Law & Innovation, thanks to the support of the Knowledge Institute of Abreu Advogados. A renowned expert in the fields of intellectual property and information technology law, Giuseppe Mazziotti will be moving from Trinity College Dublin, where he was a full-time professor.

In commenting on his decision, Professor Mazziotti shared that he chose to move to Católica “because of its excellence, intellectual rigour and engagement combined with a very friendly, forward-looking and genuinely international spirit”. Católica, he added, “is an exceptional community of scholars, educators and students whose mission is exploring transnational aspects of regulation, technology and cultural policies that are at the core of my research and teaching activities”.

This is Giuseppe Mazziotti’s first long-term academic appointment in southern Europe, after more than a decade spent between Denmark (University of Copenhagen), Belgium (Centre for European Policy Studies) and Ireland (Trinity College Dublin).

“We are delighted to welcome Giuseppe Mazziotti”, said Miguel Poiares Maduro, Dean of Católica Global School of Law (CGSL), on the school’s most recent faculty member. “Aside from his intellectual excellence, Giuseppe brings with him a Horizon Europe grant to lead a research consortium of top European institutions that CGSL is now proud to host”.

For Luís Barreto Xavier, President of the Knowledge Institute, “innovation is at the core of the strategy of both Abreu Advogados and CGSL. Therefore, we are very proud for taking this step, as part of the renewed close partnership with Católica. We look forward to working together with Professor Mazziotti, especially regarding the training of our lawyers”.
