The event will bring together academic researchers to reflect on the first experiences with platform data access under Article 40(4) of the Digital Services Act (DSA). The discussion will explore lessons from the first wave of data access requests submitted by researchers, focusing on the governance frameworks needed to support systemic risk research. Particular attention will be given to the technical and organisational requirements involved, including institutional support, data security measures, and the infrastructure required to manage such data.
The webinar will also address structural inequalities in platform data research, examining who can meaningfully participate in the research ecosystem created by the DSA and how improved knowledge-sharing across institutions could strengthen researchers’ ability to engage with platform data access procedures.
