Following the European Commission's announcement on the launch of a public consultation on the 'fair share' proposal, Católica Global School of Law is organizing a debate on the topic with academics, industry representatives, and other stakeholders.

Cartaz_Telcos vs Big Tech

At the heart of this debate is the question of whether the biggest technological companies, such as Google, Meta or Netflix, should be required to contribute to the cost of the telecoms infrastructure. While telecom operators argue that tech companies do not sufficiently contribute to the costs of a network on which they rely to deliver content to their users, the opposing side has been expressing concerns about the proposal's impact on net neutrality.

With the moderation of CGSL's Executive Dean Tito Rendas, the line-up of speakers features the following experts:

  • Konstantinos Komaitis (Non-resident Fellow and Senior Researcher, The Lisbon Council)
  • Nuno Guimarães (President, Internet Society - Portuguese Chapter)
  • Pedro Mota Soares (Secretary-General, APRITEL)
  • Giovanni De Gregorio (PLMJ Chair in Law and Technology, Católica Global School of Law)

The event will be held on April 17, at 17:00, at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Lisbon.

Entrance is free, but registration is required through the online form.
