Public Speaking for Lawyers

2 ECTS / 12h / English

Public speaking is a practical skill often neglected in theoretical legal studies; it nevertheless constitutes a cornerstone of professional success. With increasing distractions and stimulations, it becomes more relevant than ever to know how to make a lasting impression when speaking to others, especially when on stage. Good public speaking enhances one's ability to communicate ideas clearly and persuasively, fostering confidence and leadership in various contexts. This is especially true for lawyers, who need to present their cases effectively, negotiate with various parties and demonstrate an impactful presence.

Designed in collaboration with be.boosted e.V., this seminar aims to demonstrate the elements that go into effective public speaking and to train the skills necessary to leverage them in legal practice. Participants will focus on mastering their body language, fine-tuning their vocal delivery, and presenting themselves with confidence. As such, the seminar will enhance students’ skills for work in the legal field while also unlocking new abilities and broadening their application of ideas.

The seminar is marked by a practical approach: after the theoretical input, each element will be exercised individually before synthesizing them in a final speech. A significant focus will also lie on fostering a rich feedback culture, encouraging participants to actively provide feedback to each other and work together for a mutually beneficial learning experience.

This class is particularly recommended for students representing Católica Global School of Law in Moot Court competitions.
