José Manuel Durão Barroso will be awarded the doctorate Honoris Causa

On February 2, Universidade Católica Portuguesa will award the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to José Manuel Durão Barroso, former President of the European Commission and currently faculty member at Católica Global School of Law, where he teaches a seminar on ‘The Dynamics of EU Institutions’. Barbie Zelizer, former journalist and currently Raymond Williams Professor of Communication and Director of the Center for Media at Risk at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication, will also be distinguished.

The award ceremony will take place during the celebration of the University’s National Day. The ceremony will also include the imposition of the insignia and handing of the doctoral letters to the alumni who obtained the degree in 2022, and the awarding of the silver and gold medals to UCP employees who completed 25 and 40 years of service in 2022.

On that day, a Thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated at the Santa Isabel Parish Church in Lisbon, at 11:00 am, to be presided over by His Eminence D. Manuel Clemente, Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon and Chancellor of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and broadcast live by Rádio Renascença.
