On Saturday, October 19, Católica held the first edition of its Legal Tech Competition – an event aimed at promoting students’ awareness of the potentialities of legal technologies – in partnership with Morais Leitão and BRYTER. The event took place at Morais Leitão’s offices in Lisbon and provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their legal automation skills.
Exclusively designed for 3rd and 4th-year LL.B. students, the competition challenged participants to automate workflows using BRYTER’s no-code platform. Enrolled students had access to BRYTER’s learning program some days in advance, allowing them to master the platform prior to the competition. On the competition day, they were presented with a use case, asking them to design a tool to be used in a global corporation to assist new employees during any stage of the onboarding process and to explain the tool’s impact for legal teams. Following four hours of building time, students presented their solutions to the jury, which included Adam (Kav) Kavanagh, Customer Success Ops Manager at BRYTER, Carlos Coelho, Director of Innovation and Knowledge at Morais Leitão, and Tito Rendas, Executive Dean of Católica Global School of Law.
From NDA generators to automatized detectors of conflicts of interest, participanting students pitched a wide range of highly innovative solutions. This hands-on experience allowed them to understand how technology can help make legally relevant workflows more efficient and to acquire skills that will hopefully make them stand out in an incresingly competitive job market.
We would like to thank all participating students for their enthusiasm and hard work, which made the event a tremendous success. Special congratulations go to the competition’s winner, Man Teng Leung, and to Marta Cansado and Sancho Josué, who received honorable mentions for their solutions.
