Generic Bio

Giuseppe Mazziotti is the Abreu Professor in Law and Innovation at Católica Global School of Law and the Centre on the Future of Law at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon. His main research interests lie in the fields of EU intellectual property, information technology law, media law, and cultural policies. He joined Católica in January 2023 after eight years (2014-2022) as a full-time Fellow and Professor of Intellectual Property Law at Trinity College Dublin. He is currently Coordinator and Principal Investigator of the Horizon Europe project 'Fair MusE'  (Promoting Fairness of the Music Ecosystem in a Platform-Dominated and Post-Pandemic Europe). In this project he seeks to expand some of his previous research by exploring new and inter-disciplinary criteria, methodologies and tools that can lead to a fair, more transparent, competitive and sustainable music sector in Europe. 

Earlier in his career, Giuseppe worked as an Assistant Professor in intellectual property law at the University of Copenhagen, as an Associate Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels and as an Associate and then Counsel with Nunziante Magrone in Rome. 

He is an accomplished classical musician, holding master’s degrees in clarinet performance and chamber music from the Perugia Music Academy and having collaborated with several symphony orchestras and various ensembles for two decades. 

Giuseppe holds a summa cum laude Juris Doctor (JD) degree (2001) from the University of Perugia, a PhD in Law (2007) from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and a Master in Arts (2021) from Trinity College Dublin.
