Last week, the Digital Constitutionalism Academy 2025this year dedicated to exploring the evolving landscape of AI regulation, fundamental rights, and digital sovereignty - was hosted in Florence, Italy. Católica Global School of Law was proud to be part of this initiative as a co-organiser, with Professor Giovanni De Gregorio playing a key role in its coordination. He underlined “the Academy has been an opportunity to build a network of scholars working on different angles and perspectives of digital constitutionalism”.

The Academy brought together leading scholars and policymakers to discuss the pressing policy challenges surrounding AI governance. Through a series of engaging panels and interactive training sessions, participants examined the impact of AI regulation on innovation, fundamental rights, and the role of constitutional democracies in overseeing digital technologies in general.

Among the participants in this year's edition was Mariana Calado, an LL.M. in a Digital Economy student from Católica Global School of Law. "A key theme of the academy was the urgent need to rethink regulatory approaches", noted Mariana. "We explored innovative regulatory models, including sandbox regulation and digital constitutionalism, and reflected on the role of AI in shaping global power dynamics".

Beyond the academic discussions, the Academy’s format fostered valuable exchanges among attendees. "The format of the academy allowed for meaningful exchanges, and I appreciated the opportunity to engage directly with experts and peers from across Europe", Mariana added. "I was also fortunate to receive feedback on my own academic interests, which has helped refine my current research focus."

As a co-organiser together with the University of Florence, the European University Institute and Bocconi University, Católica Global School of Law proudly supports the Academy’s mission to foster knowledge exchange on digital constitutionalism.
