Legal Automation and Engineering

2 ECTS / 12h / English

Digital transformation via artificial intelligence and workflow automation is fundamentally changing the way legal professionals work, their roles, and interacting with internal and external clients. International law firms such as Linklaters, Morais Leitão and LUTHER alongside corporate legal departments like those found in McDonald’s and Comcast are already building bespoke legal solutions to accelerate legal processes and improve business outcomes — with no coding or technical background needed. In the Legal Automation & Engineering seminar, students will not only see how this is implemented in real world scenarios but also have the opportunity to test legal automation for themselves. They will gain insight and hands-on experience in legal tech, no-code automation and AI tools to prepare them for their future careers. This course aims to provide students with a foundational understanding of a variety of legal and software engineering skills and the ways in which they are currently in use. Students will gain fundamental knowledge and methodological skills in areas such as software development, project management, and digital business models in the legal market.
