14 March 2016 The Trial of Jesus by Joseph H.H. Weiler The Trial of Jesus Christ is probably the legal episode with more consequences in the evolution of the occidental civilization. It had a deep impact in the concept of justice and there its effects are felt whether we are believers or not. Therefore, the absence of a Theology of Judgement in the vast existing literature about this theme in in fact odd. Why did the authorities took Jesus Christ to Trial? Why not choose the most simple and common biblical option for the problematic citizens, the summary death? What was the purpose of the Trial after all? In this lecture, Professor Weiler will analyze the historic, politic and legal context of the Trial and, in particular, its processual correction. Through and refection about this and others questions, the focus will be the way this Trial shaped the occidental notions of justice.
