The aim of this course is to give students an understanding of what regulation is about, why we regulate, and the central debates about what counts as good regulation.

The first half looks at what is regulation and why we regulate, before moving onto considering important regulatory strategies and theories.

The second half considers the types of regulatory standards and questions of enforcement before considering the central current approaches to expand regulatory capacities and widen regulatory legitimacy.
