Considering the challenges it poses to the very survival of mankind and our planet, climate change is THE defining issue of our time. For lawyers, climate change is not only a phenomenon of observation, but rather one that clearly impacts the fabric of the legal system, encouraging the adoption of new and creative solutions for the problems raised. Adopting an international law perspective, this seminar aims at enlightening students on the severe impact that climate change phenomena have on different domains of international law (e.g. migration or refugee law, law of the sea, or human rights) and on the legal instruments and doctrines that ought to be developed to cope with these phenomena. All that, of course, presuppose a prior enquiry on climate justice issues, as well as on the governance challenges posed by climate change.
