The protection of intellectual property plays a crucial role in the Digital Economy. This course introduces students to the basics of intellectual property law in the European Union, with special focus on the protection of creative content and data in the digital environment. Topics to be discussed in class include: the liability of content aggregators (such as YouTube and Facebook), the challenges posed to intellectual property law by artificial intelligence, and the problems of enforcing intellectual property rights online. Examination will be in the form of a take-home paper assignment.
