The Lisbon School of Law at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Católica Global School of Law are looking for candidates with a prominent record of scholarly publications and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision, to apply for the PLMJ Chair in Law & Technology.

Job description

Thanks to a grant from PLMJ, one of Portugal’s largest and most prestigious law firms, Católica will be hiring one scholar for a position equivalent to that of Full Professor.

The chair is a full-time joint appointment between the Lisbon School of Law at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Católica Global School of Law. Candidates should be prepared to teach across a wide range of topics within the field of Law and Technology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, in particular in our LL.M. Law in a Digital Economy. The preferred areas of specialization include platform or Internet regulation, law and AI, data protection, blockchain and the law, fintech, Internet of Things, and intellectual property. Candidates are expected to specialize and work within the intersections of several of these areas and not merely to focus on one. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise and discuss master’s and doctoral theses and may be assigned coordination tasks.

The holder of the chair will become a member of the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law – a research unit within Católica that is committed to pursuing interdisciplinary and transnational research in law – and should also be available to take part in conferences and seminars promoted by PLMJ.

We offer an academic position for a period of three years. In case of good performance, a permanent position may be offered at the end of the three-year period.

We are looking for candidates with a European and international approach to the law and with research in areas involving law and technology. Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Holders of a doctoral degree;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. A passive or working knowledge of Portuguese is valued, but is not mandatory;
